The Mortal Kombat 1: Umgadi trailer starts by showing the Outworld in the background. Kites can be seen flying in the sky. From the looks of it, it may be in the time of Liu Kang’s reign. The surroundings look like somewhere in the docks, where people are busy with their livelihoods all around. The visuals are stunning, despite several building structures in the background looking odd.
The Umgadi Priestesses
As the backdrop changes, a carriage can be seen in front of what looks like the royal family’s home. The trailer soon proves to be a concealed vessel for Li Mei and Liu Kang, who burst out from its doors to ambush their enemies. It looks like the place is in a marketplace where people are hanging around doing regular stuff.
The trailer also reveals the background of the Umgadi, who are tasked with the protection of the royal members. The Umgadi are an elite group of Umgadi Priestesses who are selected from the firstborn daughters of the Outworld. The Umgadi seem to wear yellow, black, and white colored clothes, as they stand beside princesses Mileena and Kitana.
Li Mei: Deserter, now back for unfinished business
Li Mei was once the leader of Umgadi, who was exiled for deserting the order. Her return to the Outworld looks to be quite an occasion where several members of the aristocratic society of the Outworld are seen to be present.
As she hurtles from the carriage unannounced, Outworld guards try to stop her, but Li Mei sweeps them off without much of a hassle. Her confrontation with Raiden moments later almost makes her look like Jacqui Briggs from Mortal Combat X. As Li Mei fights Raiden, a few Umgadi guards can be seen in the background, keeping a watch on things.

Li Mei’s fighting style is ruthless as she takes out Raiden fairly easily. During the fight, Sub Zero makes an appearance to help out Mein with his powers. During this point, Li Mei’s exile is elaborated upon: King Jerrod was murdered when she was the leader of the Umgadi warriors.
Tanya makes her stand clear
Tanya, the current leader of these warrior priestesses isn’t all happy to see her former colleague back in Outworld. Behind Tanya, Khameleon can be seen, albeit blurry. Her short appearance on the screen may suggest that Khameleon will remain a cameo fighter in Mortal Konbat 1. But Khameleon was also spotted in the leaked roster for the game, making the suspicion stronger.
Tanya and Li Mei get their fists together over speculations if the royal family is in danger or not. Tanya’s skill set is showcased, and they look stunning from the trailer. An old move of Tanya involving a spin kick also looks to be available for players to make use of. Her shape-shifting weapon of choice is also extensively shown during the fight.
Mileena’s ordeals
The scene cuts to a dinner table where Princess Mileena can be having her meal with Rain and even Liu Kang joining her. Tanya approaches the princess with concerns about the latter’s well-being. Kitana can be seen trying to comfort her sister as Mileena is told that Liu Kang may be able to help her get better.
A pivotal role played by Baraka?
The trailer then brings forth Baraka, the general of the Tarkatan armies. Mileena’s disease is hinted to be something that may be turning her into a Tarkatan. With the Outworld guards seen to draw Baraka’s blood, their intentions may be questioned by fans.
Baraks is later seen to be backed up by more Takatans, in what seems like a resistance against Tarkat itself. Dead Outworld guards can be seen in the background as Tarkatans make a meal out of them. Baraka goes on to fight Li Mei as some gigantic animal can be seen in the background.

Baraka’s moves look impressive as he slashes Mei multiple times. Despite his violent attacks, Li Mei also manages to land a few punches of her own. During the fight, Goro steps in to help out Li Mei.
Baraka is also seen having a go with Tanya in the ring with a brief cameo from Darius. The background to their fight looks uncannily like Shang Tsung’s Flesh Pits. Looking closely, sketches of Centaurs can be observed on the walls. All the Centaur references may hint towards Mataro coming back to the roster in Mortal Kombat 1. Even the Pyramid of Argus can be briefly seen in the background during this fight.
