There are new games coming out practically every day. The gaming industry is in a boom and fans cannot be happier. However, it’s not like every project gets to see the final light of day as many titles also get scrapped, leaving anticipating fans heartbroken.

One such project has recently been announced to be shelved as Ubisoft made it clear that Immortals Fenyx Rising will not have a sequel coming out anytime soon. It was an open-world action-adventure game that garnered widespread approval upon launch, with many considering it a fresh new breath in the industry.

Immortals Fenyx Rising was released in 2020 and introduced a lot of new features to the open-world action-adventure genre. The game took some obvious inspirations from The Legend of Zelda titles that helped to make the game feel nice to players. While the game failed to perform well in terms of sales, fans all acknowledged how the game played well.

Despite fan approval, Ubisoft seems more focused on titles like Assassin’s Creed in recent years. This made the company’s attention shift to projects that didn’t involve titles like Immortals Fenyx Rising. However, the game’s fantastical tone made the game a memorable experience for players who took the time to explore its vast map, either by themselves or team up with friends.

The subpar performance of the game was somewhat attributed to the fact that the game seemed to have undergone major changes from the time of being announced to when it was actually released.

Sequel plans shelved

Irrespective of the reasons, Immortals Fenyx Rising failed to make the market impressions that Ubisoft would have hoped for. Despite its funny moments and slick combat style, the devs don’t consider the title to warrant a sequel any time soon. Now the fans who were hoping to see the first release create the groundwork for a franchise to be formed are left wanting more, as Ubisoft has made it clear that a sequel is not happening.

The decision may come from the focus on AAA titles that Ubisoft considers to be more important at the moment. From rumors, there may be as many as eleven Assassin’s Creed games in the works. Along with that, new Prince of Persia and Avatar games are also in the talks that can explain the scrapping of a smaller IP like Immortals Fenyx Rising.
