Treyarch fixes unfair practice in ranked mode of Call of Duty Vanguard

During the Ranked Play’s beta, certain players took advantage of not losing any skill rating upon leaving a game mid-way. This unethical practice is also commonly known as ‘dashboarding’. This practice is not exclusive only to this iconic shooter series.

In fact, dashboarding is witnessed in any video game with a competitive aspect. Players, in order to not face the penalty of losing a ranked match, just quit the game. This allows them to escape the loss of rank or skill rating and allows them to complete matches they are sure to win and gain rank.

This practice is obviously quite unfair, and it seems like Treyarch is going to be taking steps in order to make dashboarding have more severe consequences.

Players have had issues with dashboarding as it is against the fundamental spirit of any title with a ranked mode. Players unfairly reach the top by leaving their teammates behind to lose a game where their presence was crucial. Not only this, these players only finish the games they are bound to win. So with no losses, they reach unfairly high ranks.

This paints a false picture of their skill level and does not reflect the true skill of the players in the matches they have lost.

However, it seems like Treyarch has taken cognizance of this issue. With Treyarch’s lead designer, Lawrence Metten reassuring players of incoming action.

Adding on, Treyarch has officially recognized the issue and fixed it as well.

It seems like players who abandon their teammates will be facing abandon sanctions and penalties. Players who have previously dashboarded will now face a penalty with their skill rating reducing even after a win. This essentially means that a player’s previously abandoned sanction rolls onto the next match.

That said, when players leave within one minute of a ranked match starting, the match will be canceled with no player facing a skill rating penalty. It seems like the strategy adopted by Call of Duty Vanguard falls in line with other competitive games. And fans seem to be happy with the fix.
