The TwitchCon started in 2019 and is an event that fans generally look forward to every year. The 2023 edition of the convention had some solid programs lined up and fans were excited to travel to Paris in July.

However, Paris is witness to some of the most intense rioting in recent years. Public outrage over police actions has left the city in chaos and the emerging images have shocked people across the globe. The ensuing violence across Paris doesn’t seem to slow down any time soon and this has many wondering if TwitchCon is likely to commence in such volatility.

Trainwreck slams Twitch’s motivations

Twitch claimed that canceling the event would lead to a significant loss of money for them. Refunding options to fans were also ruled out. Such decisions came as a shock to many who believed that Twitch is focused on fans’ safety. The decision naturally irked many community members and Kick saw the opportunity to make their presence felt. The green platform has recently seen a flow of streamers joining their ranks after Twitch’s controversial new policies.

Kick co-founder Trainwreck took to Twitter to bash Twitch’s stances alleging that their focus on turning a profit will result in fan safety being compromised. In his post, he wrote that Twitch not backing down from the convention plans is like indirectly asking fans to cancel their plans, so the Amazon-owned platform doesn’t lose money. “We don’t want to cancel and lose money or refund and lose money, so we’ll go through with it and hope you cancel and lose money“, he wrote on Twitter, taking shots at Twitch.
