Video games with in-depth stories and well-developed backstories usually garner a huge fan base pretty fast. The environment that developers create to keep their fans looking for stories is what keeps them involved even after completing those games.

And sometimes those stories reveal weird details. Details like that particular game being connected to some other game in a weird way. So here we list some games that share their universe and reveal it through their environment.

Sleeping Dogs is a police drama very similar to The Departed, it features a cop who has to go undercover to get some dirt on the most brutal gangs in his area. Just cause 2 on the other hand is about an action hero who flies a plane and jumps from it at the very last moment and just loves blowing stuff up that way.

These games can’t be more different, but in Sleeping Dogs we can see an ad for Panau island, the setting for Just cause 2 on TV. This ad just pretty much proves that these video games are connected.

Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto Video Games are connected through characters

Red Dead and GTA have been Rockstar game’s prime series lately, everything else, Bully, Manhunt and others have been effectively forgotten by the developers. While fans were waiting for those other games to get made, they noticed something: when starting Grand Theft Auto Online players have a choice of selecting their ancestors, and they can select John Marston.

Super Mario Bros and Every Other Nintendo Video Games Franchise!

There are slight hints of some games in the usual Mario games. But the biggest proof that they are all in the same universe is the Super Smash Bros. series. They get invitations to be in those games like they are in the next town.

So if we are to calculate where who resides, we would say Zelda, Donkey Kong, Mario, Luigi, Wario, etc are all basically part of the same universe.

Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hills

We all remember Hideo Kojima’s Silent Hills. The director’s first-ever attempt at making a horror game was not disappointing. We never even got the whole game, and yet we knew its potential just by playing that very short demo.

And at the same time, players walking through African jungles in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom pain would intercept a radio broadcast, informing them about the fate of the Protagonist in Silent Hills. As if it was all happening in different countries on the same planet.

Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid

Splinter cell’s Sam Fisher and Metal Gear Solid’s Snake have hinted at each other’s existence every now and then. But we all remember that moment when Snake finally retired in Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of Patriots.

Sometime after that game released, we got a Splinter Cell DLC for Ghost Recon Wildlands, in which Sam Fisher tells his handler that there are only a few guys left who do these stealth missions. He then says that the other guy wore a bandana, to which his handler replies that the bandana guy actually retired.
