PlayStation 5 is one of the best-performing gaming consoles for a reason. It has many exclusive games that have helped boost sales numbers for Sony.

A lot of these games focus solely on story narration. While online multiplayer games have their appeal, story-heavy single-player games also have a loyal fan base. Having a lot of options can also get you confused. So, we got you covered and made this list of the 10 best story-focused games on PlayStation 5.

The game is Horizon Zero Dawn’s glorious successor. The game is set on a futuristic Earth, where the lands are roamed by robot beasts. The game visuals are stunning, and the gameplay is exciting. That’s a great combination already.

Hundreds of hours of side-quests will also keep you engaged as you are taken along Alloy’s journey to the far stretches of this bio-organic world. Deep lore and incredible things to do in the game make Horizon: Forbidden West a single-player lover’s dream. The far-distant Earth will make you feel like you can’t stop playing and yet as the game ends, you can’t help but feel a little sad.

God of War Ragnarok

The game follows Kratos and Atreus’ journey through the celestial realms to save its destruction has eye-popping visuals. From being essentially a hack-and-slash game on the PlayStation 2 to becoming a thoughtful and critical study of character, GoW has come a long way. Thor and Odin are not ideal family members either. Brilliant landscapes and questions of morality will haunt players long after they’ve switched off their screens.

Dead Space

The iconic game is set in 2508. By this time, humanity has spread across the universe in this spine-chilling horror story. “Planetcrackers” are used to harvest resources from distant systems in order to survive as all of Earth’s are exhausted. In the game, you’re supposed to investigate and escape the Necromorph that has turned the entire crew into alien monsters. Dead Space exemplifies the power of horror games, even more so as the 2023 remake features quite a few upgrades.  Containing long periods of time in suffocating darkness, Dead Space is definitely one of the classics.

Final Fantasy XVI

The game is nothing like any previous Final Fantasy titles. The 3rd person, Devil May Cry-style, gameplay will be a whole new experience for long-time players of the Square Enix franchise. Clive goes through three phases of his life to seek vengeance. Released only a few days back, the game has already received great reviews. From striking down your enemies with a sword to calling upon Summons to battle it out “mega”-style, this game has a lot to offer. An inbuilt Wikipedia helps to make the lore more convincing which you can’t get enough of.

Stray

Many fans would probably accept that cats are the most single-player creature ever. Play as a cat on a planet where humanity has become scarce. A dedicated “meow button” is sure to give you a few chuckles when you play Stray. Lost in City Sans, a spiraling walled city, this game is more than just a funny approach to feline behavior. Along with drone buddy B12, you have to escape the slums and get to discover what happened to humans on Earth. Be sure to avoid the cat vickies along the way and you will surely be able to find Stray worth more than you think.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart is easily one of the best games on the list. Play as Ratchet and Clank to save the world from Dr. Nefarious. Ratchet & Clank feels more like a multiplayer game, to be honest. Make sure the Dimensionator isn’t activated and save time and space, in this incredibly addictive game. The game has all the classic fun features of Ratchet & Clank titles along with weapons that can let you turn your enemies into the shrubbery. With eccentric companions, you travel around the galaxy and save dimensional worlds.

Resident Evil 4

Playing as Leon Kennedy, you have to save the President’s daughter from a remote village in Europe. The Resident Evil 4 Remake is all the more immersive that is sure to still give you goosebumps every now and then. With cinematic storytelling and over-the-shoulder camera position, the game changed a lot of things from the previous titles, and the results are more than worth the decision. Filled with jump scares, Resident Evil 4 hits the perfect balance between horror and survival.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

The latest Star Wars game starts years after the Star Wars: Fallen Order. Jedi Survivor follows the story of the previous title, where Cal is now a skilled Jedi with an inkling towards dropping stormtroopers. Facing monsters with mind tricks and testing out the strength of the Empire’s walls, Jedi: Survivor has a lot to do in the game, that keeps you busy for some time.

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection

Mudslides and falling towers, elephant rides and trembling lands, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves is an experience you can do with. Best-in-class environmental art and Indiana Jones-style brawls make the game an RPG-lover’s paradise. With spectacular explosions and crisscrossing the globe in the search for archeological relics, Uncharted Legacy of Thieves is an impressive storytelling that you should definitely play on the PlayStation 5.
