Even after two-and-a-half years since the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the game continues to be an absolute fan favorite. There are over millions of active players playing the game. Over the same period, Animal Crossing has also faced criticism for not having many updates. But what kept the social simulation game alive was the villagers.

This 2020 social simulation game features a wide plethora of characters who made a special place in the hearts of the fans. But still, many new ACNH fans might wonder which villagers to invite to their island. Although it still depends on personal opinion, here are the top five nicest Animal Crossing villagers one should have on their island.

Roald

Who wouldn’t love to have an adorable penguin villager? Roald belongs to that category and might also be a perfect choice, as he is a jock penguin villager. He has appeared in every Animal Crossing game.

Further, many Animal Crossing fans believe Roald’s name is derived from Roald Amundsen, the first to reach Antarctica. Moreover, his house’s interior looks like it is made of ice, which suits the villager’s habitat.

Mary

Mary is one of the villagers that you would love to have on your island. She is a peppy villager who might be the happiest character in the game, despite being a cat (got the irony?). Even Mary’s name in the Japanese version, Sacchi, means happy.

She might be among the most common villagers. Most players love to invite Mary to their play through thanks to her big wide smile, faint little double chin, and many attractive characteristics. Many people even like buying Animal Crossing merchandise that features Mary.

Mary made its debut in the Animal Forest e+, but this cat villager was only available by its e-card back then. Also, the 2005 game Animal Crossing: Wild World is the only game not to feature Mary.

Eric

If laziness is a trait one loves, then players should invite Eric to their island. Eric is a lazy deer villager who is, again, very friendly. He can easily get along with most villagers in-game. Only the jock and snooty types might have some problems because of Eric’s lifestyle.

Eric’s name is very common in Nordic countries, which are famous for winters and spotting large numbers of moose, and both of these are references for this deer villager’s name and design. Eric’s house has a winter theme which might make players feel like they are in the European mountains during winter.

Raymond

Being famous is one thing and then there is Raymond. Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans might not need an introduction to this smug cat villager, that is almost present in all the villager’s islands.

Raymond became famous for its appearance, especially because of its heterochromatic eyes and for its waistcoat and glasses. Additionally, Raymond has a gentleman-like personality, so he can easily get along with other villagers except for the cranky ones.

Marshal

Marshal is another famous character in the series. The character is the smug squirrel villager, whom most players love to have on their islands. Fans even make Animal Crossing merchandise themed after Marshal.

This smug squirrel was first introduced in New Leaf. Fans love Marshal for its marshmallow-like appearance. Moreover, being a smug type like Raymond, Marshal is also a perfect villager to have on your island.
