Halloween is that time of the year when the breezes are chilly and there is a terrifying silence in the air. And a strange presence can be felt lurking in the dark corners of your room looking at you, smiling. And so are some easter eggs in video games that hide in the shadows of the abyss for unsuspecting prey to stumble upon it, to never return the same again.

Keeping the eeriness aside, here are the top 5 easter eggs that are scarier than some Halloween Spooks.

Slendrina’s Mom – Granny

The game Granny in itself is a nightmare. In the game, you play as an unknown protagonist trapped in a haunted house. While you solve many puzzles to get out of the maze-like house filled with several traps and hidden rooms, the demon of Granny will try to capture you.

Slendrina, for those who don’t know, is the granddaughter of Granny and is one of the main characters in Slendrina X and the child of Slendrina. But despite being featured in many indie games as an easter egg, Slendrina was always shown associated with granny, but no one was able to find Ganny’s daughter and Slendrina’s mother.

One day, someone stumbled upon a book in Granny and after a few switch presses, was able to find a hidden room on the upper floor of Granny’s house. And in that room when the book is placed on a stone pedestal, it reveals a chained corpse of Slendrina’s mother.

Ghost in the Bathroom – Hitman 3 Contracts

In Traditions of the Trade mission, Agent 47 gets tasked by his handler Diana to take care of the Fuchs brothers and retrieve a chemical bomb from them. In the process, he infiltrates an abandoned wing of the hotel where he has to sneak past some guards and make his way to the bomb.

But the reason that part of the hotel is closed off is because of a ghost that appears in the mirrors on the bathroom walls. Since it’s an easter egg, the theory of the area being abandoned by the guests suits the creepy appearance of the ghost on their bathroom mirrors.

Elizabeth’s Bodies in the Water – Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea – Episode 2

Bioshock Infinite is a masterpiece of a game, both from a gameplay standpoint and the storytelling aspect of it. Thus it is no surprise that the series which is infamous for its creepy setups might pull off some mind-bending easter eggs just like this.

In Bioshock Infinite, our character saves Elizabeth, who is stuck in a quantum superposition. This means she can be killed but she can’t die because of a quantum loop that she created for herself, so the obvious question arises, where are all the other bodies of all the different Elizabeths?

The answer is as simple as the waters around the lighthouse at the beginning of chapter 2, where players can spot several dead bodies of Elizabeth floating.

Weeping Witch – Payday 2

Having witches and demons in a horror game is a must, but Payday 2 is an exception. Not because it has crying witches and jump scares, but because it is not a horror game. One of the biggest fear in humans is the fear of the unexpected, thus this easter egg fits right in its place.

During the heist in Payday 2, if the player decides to stand over the corpse in the hospital bed followed by a power cut, then proceeds towards a closed door with a glass pane on it, peeking inside, the player can witness a weeping witch. Notably, the witch will then jump toward the player, screaming at them with a terrifying face and disappearing within seconds.

This easter egg is one of the scariest as the jumpscare is not anticipated by most players who stumbled upon this for the first time. Hope some of you dress up as a Weeping Witch to nail that Halloween spook.

G Man follows you throughout Half-Life 2

One of the longest-running easter eggs in the horror genre, the mysterious person from the Half-Life series, also known as the G Man, follows you throughout the game.

G Man is one of the most mysterious characters in a video game and has been a point of interest that no one to date can solve the question of why is he following you. During the initial years, fans thought that he is a government agent in the game who is keeping track of him while you play through the game.

But later it became clear that G Man is not a human being, as he can be sometimes seen watching you through television and at many unexpected places. Later it was also confirmed by the game when the strange man confronted the player face front and proved that he was not a simple man. To date, it is not known who this person is and why he was following the player throughout the game.
