GoldenEye 007 is a first-person shooter game developed by Rare and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64. Released in 1997, the game was inspired by the 1995 James Bond film GoldenEye. Recently, it got a green flag for the Nintendo Switch console. But there was something mysterious about its launch.
2015 was almost ready to become the best year of all-times
Nintendo fans would be stoked to know that the game was at first aimed to release in 2015. Moreover, it had the potential to become the highlight of Rare’s 30th anniversary. But again, good things don’t knock on the door that easily.
Due to some licensing issues, the game’s release got obstructed. As reported by Nintendolife, during a GI Live panel earlier this week, Rare’s boss Craig Duncan spoke on the matter. He said, “To be honest, it took us longer than I wanted it to. We tried to get it lined up for when we did Rare Replay back in 2015, which I guess was Rare’s 30th anniversary.”
Furthermore, he said, “As you can imagine, things involving licences and published games just have complexity… there were lots of conversations, lots of conversations with our friends at Nintendo, the folks at MGM, the folks at Xbox, and we just kept talking until we made it happen. We made it happen, so I’m proud of that.”

Even though the early release of the game would have made the fans go on cloud nine, it all happened for the good, as gamers can soon enjoy GoldenEye 007 on the Switch console. And what comes as a brilliant bonus is the ‘online’ version for the Switch. Therefore, the game readies itself for making the future as classy as James Bond.
The paradise for Nintendo fans is about to unleash on planet Earth
Surprisingly, GoldenEye007 wasn’t the only game under the spotlight. Chiefly, the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild shared the spotlight. As the Direct presentation neared its end, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom stoked the Nintendo fans. Also, the game will be available for franchise fans on May 12, 2023.
