A latest report from a popular media outlet has once again tried to claim that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was never going to be a standalone game of its own. Also, that it was turned into a $70 premium in the later stages of development by Activision. Interestingly, the leading studio on the project, Sledgehammer Games, has now come forward to clear all the doubts.
Modern Warfare 3 happens to be a direct sequel to its predecessor, Modern Warfare II from 2022. Alongside the story, it also carries forward many other elements from the previous title. Ahead of its debut itself, the game was facing a lot of backlash for being “more of a DLC” than a full video game, according to media reports. Recently, they have surfaced once again while also throwing light on the difficulty of making MW3 under a rushed schedule of just 16 months. Eventually, Sledgehammer’s team decided to offer a clarification on social media.

For the uninitiated, a new report was recently shared online focusing on MW3’s development phase and why it’s getting mostly bad reviews. The report claimed that the rushed storyline of the Campaign mode is the reason why many people are not liking it. Furthermore, it revealed that Modern Warfare 3 was basically made in a period of a year and a half. Whereas most of the COD premiums are developed in a duration of at least three years, according to the report.
What’s interesting to note is that within minutes of the aforementioned report from Bloomberg going viral, Sledgehammer Games also took to social media to provide a response. Studio head Aaron Halon had a long post to share, addressing claims made by the reliable news outlet.
SHG’s head wrote that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is “the first true sequel in franchise history. It is also why we added features like Carry Forward for the first time to honor the investment our players have made in the Modern Warfare series.”
