Indie devs are looking to usher in a new era in the gaming industry. While the big studios love to push the boundaries with their high budgets and AAA titles, indie games love experimenting to give something completely new to the fans. Titles like Fall Guys, Rocket League, and The Forest took the community by storm with their incredibly engaging gameplay in a relatively simplistic setting. Now, another indie horror game looks to deliver new nightmares.
Developed by Kotake Create, Exit 8 is expected to make landfall later this month. The game looks like a surreal scene from a lucid dream that can turn into a frantic search for escape. Fans who believe in the game’s potential are flooding social media platforms with their takes on the matter.

Exit 8 is set in the Japanese underground and looks like a subway station corridor. The players must find an escape from the winding maze. The environment looks minimal and creepy overhead lights help to see the way in the game. In a short clip that’s surfaced online, the corridors cannot be distinguished properly and it looks like the player keeps coming back to the same section of the pathways again and again.
This indie dev is making a game where you are trapped in a never ending subway until you can find a way to escape…

Echoing footsteps are the only thing keeping company to the player. Another creepy aspect of the upcoming indie title would be noticing the same person in the same corridor every time the player passes below the “Exit 8” sign illuminated by a dim yellow light.
Multiple posters and signs can be seen plastered to the wall that sometimes cautions those in transit to “keep to the left”. In the video clip, the player looks pretty confident and walks on the right side of the tunnel despite being told otherwise. However, nothing seemingly catches the player off guard and the maze continues without any changes. The minimal setting of The Exit 8 gives a sensation of one’s skin crawling up and fans can’t wait for the nightmarish game to finally arrive.
Fans share their opinions on the indie horror release
After the clip went viral on social media, fans have also shared their excitement about the upcoming indie title. A fan has said what most of us are probably already thinking: “Terrifying. Claustrophobic.”Another lad found some similarities between the clip and a Matrix movie and thinks this could work nicely.
So basically… The opening scene to Matrix 3 when Neo is trapped in the subway? I can dig it.
