In the past, there have been discussions and debates about whether eSports should be included in the Olympics. The Asian Games paved the way by having medals given out for eSports events held in the Asian Games 2022. Now the International Olympics Committee is ready to give eSports an Olympics event of its own.
The committee has announced the Olympic Esports Series 2023. Earlier, nine titles were included in the event ranging from Gran Turismo (Motor Sport) to JustDance (Dance). But the tenth addition to the list has caused an uproar among the fans for the unfair treatment of the game.

While the players are yet unknown, they have announced the venue for the Fortnite Olympic event. And the Creative mode using UEFN came in handy for the venue. The event will feature an ISSF Island in the creative mode of Fortnite.

The Island is drawing inspiration from sport shooting competitions held in the Olympics. And just like shooting sports, players have to prove their accuracy to win the game.
Although, the set of rules for the battle royale game’s Olympic debut has caused a negative reaction from the fans toward the Olympic eSports committee.
Fans upset about the Olympic eSports committee being out of touch
The announcement of the 10 eSports events has brought the thunder of eSports fans down on the Olympics Committee. They have asked the committee to learn from the example of the Asian games. The Asian games featured legacy eSports titles like FIFA and League of Legends. But by denying all popular requests, the IOC has added many uncommon titles to the list. Furthermore, they now believe Fortnite has been reduced to an aim-and-shoot event.

Everyone involved in Olympic Esports genuinely deserve to be fired, it’s a complete embarrassment for Esports. We have thousands of passionate talent worthy of consulting for projects like this, but no, we get a panel that couldn’t be more out of touch 🤷🏻♂️

In conclusion, Fortnite deserves better than an aim-and-shoot invitational event. Maybe the IOC will heed the pleas of fans and sort the matter out. On the contrary, the other eSports events are accessible to everyone, with qualification rounds taking place. The finalists will compete in the Suntec Centre in Singapore from June 22 to June 25, 2023.
