In their joint venture to run away from their pursuers, the misfit gang of Joel, Ellie, Sam, and Henry move together on a safe route that allegedly will get them safely out of the premises. In their journey, they quickly bond together, as in many aspects Henry and Joel are almost reflections of each other.

Ellie and Sam also bonded with each other very well. Ellie accepted Sam as her younger brother. But the good times were very short-lived, as, even after all their precautions, hunters caught up to them. But they managed to run away from them again as a huge hive of the infected rained down on them.

However, in the process, Sam was bitten by one of the infected and it was apparent to all what is about to happen. Ellie tried to save Sam with her blood as a last-ditch effort, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. Sam lashed out at her, trying to kill her. Joel jumped to help her and kill Sam, but Henry stopped him.

Seeing the current state of his brother, Henry had no other choice but to do the job with his own hands. He shot his brother dead. After realizing that now his brother is dead, he has nothing in his life anymore, Henry takes the gun and shoots himself in the head. Thus, both brothers meet their demise.
