A specific scene featured in 2022’s blockbuster Call of Duty title will remind movie lovers of Tom Cruise’s box office juggernaut Top Gun: Maverick in more ways than one.
The COD franchise is known for its high-octane action. Not to mention that all of its iconic titles released so far have proved this point. Well, there’s another franchise that has amassed a massive fan following over the years for showcasing breathtaking action sequences. It’s the Top Gun film series featuring the popular Hollywood actor Tom Cruise. But has anyone ever imagined what could be a possible outcome if these two entities ended up having a crossover?
While it’s not been the case so far, seems like Activision’s hit game did take a leaf out of last year’s Top Gun: Maverick (sort of). Because one of the early missions from the best-selling video game of 2022 features a sequence that looks way similar to Tom Cruise’s epic scene from the celebrated sequel to the 1986’s classic.

The missile sequence from Call of Duty Modern Warfare II’s ‘Kill or Capture’ is unintentionally similar to the mesmerizing dogfight in Top Gun: Maverick
In case anyone has forgotten, the single-player Campaign’s first mission, titled ‘Kill or Capture’, features a specific scene of navigating a missile. The missile is seen going through an uneven path. The player is tasked with handling it properly in order to hit the desired target successfully. For anyone not well-versed with such situations, it may seem like a challenging objective to accomplish initially.
But do you know that the aforementioned Call of Duty Modern Warfare II scene is considered similar to Top Gun: Maverick? Well, that’s because the movie also features a certain sequence where Tom Cruise, and another key character, are inside their fighter plane.

They end up engaging in a dogfight with an enemy plane. The two aerial vehicles then go on to have an intense battle through an extremely tight territory. They both try to attack one another while having a cliffhanger battle.

When looked at closely, the way the missile is navigated in Modern Warfare II’s mission somehow appears to be inspired by the flying techniques of Top Gun: Maverick. However, that’s something not confirmed by the devs. But it’s always good to see such similarities, unintentionally popping up, especially between films and video games.

Activision’s latest installment in the popular franchise is now available worldwide. On the other hand, Tom Cruise’s fan-favorite flick has been nominated for six Oscars this year, including Best Picture.
