Depending on their preferences, Nintendo fans might either be elated or kicking themselves right now. Nintendo’s amiibo line of products is the intersection between the world of video games and toy figurines. The Japanese company’s response to the toys-to-life craze has seen much success in the past few years, with fans receiving each new arrival with much excitement.
However, if you were waiting to snatch the Steve & Alex amiibo when it finally drops, Nintendo has some bad news for you. The official Twitter handle of Nintendo of America recently uploaded an unfortunate update on the matter.
The Steve & Alex #SmashBros #amiibo were previously announced to launch in spring 2022. However, due to a logistics and production delay, unfortunately the release timing has been delayed to later in 2022. pic.twitter.com/388tqS5XQd

Nintendo delays the launch of Steve & Alex amiibo
amiibo is Nintendo’s version of toys-to-life figurines. These are faithful recreations of some of gaming’s most iconic characters ready to adorn your shelves. However, that is not all they are good for. Each amiibo sports its own RFID (radio frequency identification) chip, that allows consumers to scan them on a compatible Nintendo device.
Significantly, this allows users to unlock special features in their favorite games. For instance, players can scan an amiibo in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to receive corresponding costumes for their Mii characters. These range from Mario, Yoshi, Kirby, and even Samus Aran!

Given the context, it’s no wonder amiibo are as popular as they are! Accordingly, fans have been waiting with bated breath for the Steve & Alex amiibo to arrive ever since Nintendo announced their upcoming release in Spring 2022.
But those fans received a shocking surprise. On February 22, Nintendo announced they are delaying the amiibo’s release due to “logistics and production delay.” And fans are not happy with the surprise.
all our institutions are crumbling.

It seems the hype backfired on Nintendo.
Of all the amiibo to get a delay, it’s the ones that people were most hyped for AND the ones with the most basic shape.

THEY'RE JUST CUBES, WHY WOULD IT TAKE THAT LONG

However, some fans are optimistic about what this means for the amiibo’s eventual release.
To those curious, I think this means they're updating the amiibo to include more stuff to warrant the 15.99 price point. The delay business is just for them to warrant that.

I mean, good on them for realizing ahead of time that they’d need to manufacture significantly more Steve Amiibo and delayed them to avoid scalping.

But they're flat, smooth, simple designs that look like the actual figures that you buy. I know production is an issue in these trying times, but for Steve and Alex of all amiibo?
