God of War Ragnarok is finally here, and it has opened to rave reviews globally. In terms of scores, it’s already become the second-best-rated video game of the year, being only behind FromSoftware’s Elden Ring.

While the most anticipated game of 2022 has become an instant hit among the fans, the developing team of Santa Monica Studio wasn’t sure of the awaited PS5 exclusive’s overall quality a few months back. God of War Ragnarok’s director recently revealed this rare fact about the newly released sequel.

God of War Ragnarok wasn’t great the way it is now, three months ago

Ever since it was officially announced, the project had every fan pumped up for its release. Following the unmatched success of the first part in 2018, all the hardcore gamers were looking forward to the sequel with high expectations. However, due to many factors, the development was affected, even resulting in an extended delay of a full year.

God of War Ragnarok even received a new director in Eric Williams, who replaced Cory Barlog from the first installment. Now that it’s out, after a long wait, everything seems to be fine. The PlayStation 5 exclusive is swaying the community while also becoming the second-highest-rated title of this year. On Metacritic, currently, it’s having a stellar rating of 94 percent, based on 122 critic reviews as of this writing.

However, new director Eric Williams recently admitted that up until three months ago, his team of devs was highly concerned for the game. In fact, they were afraid of its overall quality in terms of the performance. “They were freaking out three months ago, “Holy crap, the game’s not good. What are we going to do?”” he said.

But now, witnessing the amazing debut of God of War Ragnarok, the developing team is happy and satisfied with the efforts. “I can’t even imagine how they feel today. I wish I had a time machine to go back and feel like that,” said Eric Williams.

All things considered, it seems like Santa Monica may have delivered yet another masterpiece. The game is now available worldwide for PS5 and PS4.
