In the latest Saturday Night Live, one of the most famous Kongs that missed out on the movie appearance finally got his chance to shine. In the Super Mario Bros. movie, Nintendo featured many of the renowned names in the Mario universe, including the toads, turtles, and even the Kongs, but among them, one was missed the most, Funky Kong. 

Although Funky Kong may have gotten his spotlight stolen in the movie, he returned to take the crown in the latest episode of the Saturday Night Live show. He appeared in SNL’s Weekend Update to open up about how unjustly he was “cut” from the movie. He shared Nintendo could have made more money if he had more screen time.

According to the reports, Mario movie has already managed to accumulate over $600 million at the box office, beating Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. It is believed that Super Mario Bros. may most probably become one of the biggest movies of 2023. It is also believed that this success may motivate the studio to make a Mario Universe. 

In the above video, you can check out the wacky energy of the “hottest Kong”. Appearing in the SNL, Funky talks about how he could have offered so much in the movie if he had been featured for more than just a few seconds. But if the universe rumors are true, Funky may not have to wait too long to make his silver screen appearance.

The world of Mario is way bigger than just the mushroom kingdom and Bowser’s domain. It features a diverse ecosystem filled with a variety of characters and stories to tell. That is why it won’t far be fetched to believe that, sooner or later, Nintendo will be capitalizing on the massive world of Super Mario Bros. 

Actors Like Charlie Day and Seth Rogen have already shown an interest in a standalone movie based on their characters, Luigi and Donkey Kong. Both of these characters have dedicated games that feature a cast and story separated from the adventures of Mario, giving them a distinct identity. It will be only fair they also get their own movies.
