In the gaming field, it’s not very uncommon for popular titles to take a few leaves out of each other’s books. But when it comes to a franchise like Call of Duty, things normally remain unchanged. Especially, in terms of giving the fans a certain kind of experience.

For years, COD has been known as the FPS-only series. But what if we tell you there was almost an anomaly that couldn’t turn into a reality? Well, it seems like one studio under Activision had a completely different vision for the action-shooter saga. Interestingly, it was inspired by an iconic PlayStation IP, Uncharted.

Naughty Dog‘s fan-favorite series has attained a classic status in recent years. Thanks to the installments featuring legendary protagonist Nathan Drake, it’s one of the most beloved IPs in the world now. So much so, that there was even a live-action movie released last year, based on the adventures of Drake.

But talking about games, Uncharted is regarded as one of the most influential franchises globally. It becomes quite evident from an interview featuring former Sledgehammer Games’ Senior Creative Director Bret Robbins.

Now at Ascendant Studios (Immortals of Aveum), he had an interaction a few months ago, with YouTuber MinnMax. While talking about various things, he also revealed a secret related to a mystery Call of Duty game that never saw the light of day. What’s important to note is that it was supposed to be in the third person.

Mr. Robbins told MinnMax that his team had proposed “a third person, almost like an Uncharted meets Call of Duty” sort of game. It was during the time when Sledgehammer was initially founded.

Furthermore, Bret told MinnMax that his team even made a prototype for this ambitious Call of Duty project. And that they had a demo to present as well. “It was fun. I think someone should go make that game someday.” Unfortunately, the game was canceled and it was never brought up again in discussions for development.
