The latest Xbox exclusive Starfield has been enjoying its exceptional run in the gaming market. The phenomenal numbers Bethesda’s open-world RPG has earned post its release can majorly be attributed to the marketing of Microsoft along with Bethesda. The successful partnership invited a lot of speculation about the future of Bethesda projects’ exclusivity. Moreover, the ongoing race between Xbox and PlayStation only fuels the theories. Amidst the buzz, fans are teased on the future of Elder Scrolls 6. 

As expected, the launch of Starfield as an Xbox exclusive turned out to be a huge game changer. Evidently, the eSports industry saw a shift in the approach to dominating the console rivalry. Thus, the race for title acquisitions began. And with Elder Scrolls being under wraps for quite some time, it seemed like an obvious Microsoft exclusive. But the latest statements made by the Xbox CEO have added a new twist to the tale. 

Xbox CEO uncertain about the Elder Scrolls 6 exclusivity

Phil Spencer, the CEO of Microsoft’s console gave a sneak peek on the current Microsoft strategies for upcoming releases. Following the legal fiasco of FTC and Microsoft for the controversial acquisition of Call of Duty makers Activision Blizzard, the Starfield owners have been looking for more possible exclusives. However, to everyone’s surprise, the CEO gave a polar opinion on the next planned sequel of Elder Scrolls. 

In a conversation with Bloomberg, the Xbox chief stated, “We look at it on a case-by-case basis with the games that we build. Comparing the Starfield adapted marketing, he added, “We’re looking at millions and millions of players who will have access to Starfield and other Xbox Game Studios games. It’s really about giving players choice around how they want to play and they build their library of games.”

The man also emphasized the fact that it might be too early to make a call on the future of Elder Scrolls 6 in regard to its availability on various consoles. Earlier, Spencer had claimed that Elder Scrolls 6 was an Xbox exclusive. Although fans considered the previous statements being said in the heat of the legal proceedings against FTC. “It’s so far out it’s hard to understand what the platforms will even be… We’re talking about a game that’s five-plus years away”, he concluded

The Starfield effect 

The console exclusivity debate has been intensified lately. One major reason behind this is the statements Tod Howards made on the new format of selling titles. The director of Starfield, also set to direct Elder Scrolls 6, expressed his change in confidence with Xbox collaboration. The creator was uncertain about Starfield being an Xbox exclusive. But the result turned out to be “better with the help of Microsoft”, he had claimed.

Of course, in the course of years, a lot might change with respect to the console rivalry. Hopefully, the acquisition race will only evolve to the benefit of the gaming community with plenty of surprises to offer ahead.
