Nintendo removed an iconic feature from Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Before the 2.0 update, players would upgrade their museum from a tent to a Stage 1 building. For this, they had to donate a bunch of critters to Blathers. After that, players would bump into Redd, a special character, wandering around their island. Interestingly, they would have an interesting interaction with Redd, where he will try to sell an overpriced painting.
However, he would later drop the price to make the sale. Unfortunately, Nintendo removed this interaction with Redd with the launch of the 2.0 update. Hence, beginners cannot experience the first encounter with Redd in New Horizons. Interestingly, Redd then took players to Treasure Trawler, which is a ship owned by Redd in New Horizons.
There, he offered you one of the four pieces of the art and after donating the artwork to Blathers, your museum would be upgraded directly to Stage 2. However, after the 2.0 update, your museum directly upgrades to Stage 2 skipping Stage 1 museum building. There are two reasons Nintendo removed the Stage 1 museum building from ACNH.
Nintendo’s reasons to skip Stage 1 museum upgrade from the game
In the 2.0 update, developers introduced Brewster and the Roost to New Horizons. Interestingly, the Roost can only be unlocked after adding the Art Gallery section to the museum. It would require beginners a lot of time and hard work to unlock Brewster. Hence, developers decided to skip the Stage 1 museum upgrade with the 2.0 update so that newcomers can unlock Brewster as soon as possible.

Another reason is that after the 2.0 update, Redd opens his own store at Harv’s Plaza. This allows players to purchase art before the Art Gallery upgrade. Therefore, these new additional features forced Nintendo to change Redd’s encounter and remove the Stage 1 museum building from New Horizons.
