Capcom is pumping out evergreen quality titles for the fans to enjoy. Their latest entry in the Resident Evil series has set its sights on the Game of the Year 2023 award. Further, the Japanese company is soon going to launch titles on PSVR2 and iPhone 15 Pro. Amidst all these achievements, they have received yet another piece of good news.
In 2020, Capcom was hit by a severe data breach by a group of hackers. Since then there have been no major developments in the data breach case. But it looks like the authorities have finally had a breakthrough, and that too a big one.

In a recent press release from Europol, they claimed they had successfully taken down the group behind Capcom’s data breach in 2020. The criminal group Ragnar Locker attacked the Japanese gaming company and stole data of up to 390,000 people. Europol said the group, “made a name for itself by attacking critical infrastructure across the world, having most recently claimed the attacks against the Portuguese national carrier and a hospital in Israel.”
Europol conducted searches in EU nations between October 16 and October 20. The prime suspect of the group was arrested in Paris, France. Further, Europol and Eurojust also took down the group’s operations in the Netherlands, Germany, and Sweden. They have since taken down the data leak website in Sweden.
This news has come as a sigh of relief for people and organizations attacked by the group. The group has been active since 2019, with them attacking Capcom in 2020. Reportedly, they stole over 1 TB worth of data from Capcom’s corporate networks in Japan, USA, and Canada.
While Capcom may be relieved with the latest development, another gaming company is facing a similar issue.

Sony still battling with a ransomware group
Sony is reportedly currently facing an attack from a ransomware group, Ransomed.vc. The PlayStation makers are currently using aid from international police for the investigation and successful retrieval of data from the group. They would surely be hoping that the case gets successfully resolved like Capcom’s case. Further, Sony will be on high alert following the alleged ransomware attack, considering this isn’t the first time this has happened. In 2011, hackers reportedly stole sensitive information about over 100 million PSN and playstation.com users.
