The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be available in the libraries in two months. Its predecessor, Breath of the Wild, changed the lore of Zelda completely. But when you reuse the world, including the UI elements, how do you expect the sequel to go further?

The developers came up with an answer to that question with a new power system. The four powers introduced carry forward the storyline from Breath of the Wild and solve its major problems too.

The Changes noticed in the gameplay of Tears of the Kingdom

When Zelda entered its 3D phase, the main focus of the game was on the combat aspect of the game. Collectibles in the game, leaving Skyward Swords aside, were not given much priority. Breath of the Wild had upgrades for apparel, but the gear was left out again, which was weaker than ever. To address the weapon’s durability problem and the problem of never using these collectibles, the Zelda developers combined the two questions into one answer.

Zonai Fuse is the ability to merge things to your current weapon, enhancing the weapon’s attributes of strength, reach, and durability. The fused weapon still stays with Link as he progresses in the game. This makes a lot of sense considering the number of collectibles there in Breath of the Wild.

Tears of the Kingdom have added a lot more collectibles as well, making fusing possibilities endless. Since fused materials show up as a single item in Tears of the Kingdom, this saves space for players to get new materials. As soon as the durability decreases of our current weapon, players can fuse it with a new collectible to get a new weapon.

This also stands apart from any powers of the runes the Sheikah offered. Powers only had a temporary effect and didn’t stay with us after being deactivated. Fuse, however, is endless and permanent until the weapon lasts.

Bows, however, function differently against a fusion. Bows can only fuse materials to the tip of the arrow. But possibilities are still endless, as they have an entire sub-inventory for fusing with arrows. In the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom gameplay, only three arrow combinations were seen. Keese eyeball and White Chuchu jelly were only seen in action.

They never used the Korok frond. Players can launch amber, monster parts, and meat too, possibly to distract opponents. Soldier constructs and enemies also have sharp parts attached to the head, possibly for fusion.

Endless possibilities with Fuse

The imagination of the player is the limit with fuse ability. Take a mere tree branch and fuse it with a huge rock. Combine a Keese eyeball with your arrow, transforming it into a homing arrow that tracks the target down and strikes it. Players can fuse defensive gear like shields to make them a flamethrower. The Mushroom attached to a shield turns into a smoke screen when fired at.

Players will surely be experimenting with these new abilities. Much like the case with the physics and chemistry engine in Breath of the Wild. the freestanding rocks used in Breath of the Wild to kill enemies is an example. If a light tree branch can be fused with a heavy rock to create a weapon, then what else can be used and fused? The fuse uses up the player’s Zonai charges and spiritual energy.

Fuse ability also removes the need for blacksmiths and NPCs to achieve this result. This removes the middleman required to change a weapon. Link’s hand is what makes this ability happen. An interesting bit in the game would be if Ganon’s forces or Golems also had their means of fusing things. Eiji Aonuma confirmed that some enemies will equip fused weapons.

This only represents one of the four powers of Link’s hand that will allow us to master the three land layers. Zelda developers have adapted the difficulties of this game to match said possibilities.
