Seems like Remedy’s team has nailed it in terms of offering a dark and haunting sequel which is filled with deep mystery for players to uncover. Speaking of mystery, it seems like the director of the latest survival-horror title is himself an illusion!
It may come across as a weird thing to know now but Sam Lake is not real. To be precise, the director’s name which is quite popular among gaming enthusiasts, for so many years, is actually a deception. This lesser-known fact was eventually revealed in a recent media interaction featuring none other than Alan Wake 2’s visionary director.

Mr. Lake recently sat down with a popular website to discuss various aspects about his newest title. He talked about how the game’s idea came to fruition and also regarding the overall design and inspirational elements. More than these topics, however, the interview also highlighted a different aspect regarding the director himself.
Most of the people are aware of this but the name of 53-year-old Alan Wake 2 creator is fake. Sam Lake is an illusion that the director decided to use and rebrand himself, many years ago. Yes, that’s actually the story behind the mystery of the now-iconic name.

Sam’s real name is Sami Järvi (Finnish for lake). “Finnish names are hard to pronounce and hard to spell,” the director told GQ Magazine. The basic reason for why Sami changed his name is because he was a little conscious of it. During his younger years, he was very fearful that his Finnish name would undercut the reception of his English-language writing, according to what the interview revealed. Hence, he eventually went with a pen name.

What’s next for Sam Lake after Alan Wake 2?
In the same interview, the director also revealed his plans for the future after the recent success with Alan Wake 2. While talking about the ambitions for his dream project, he said that it needs to be “crazy, huge budget, dark gothic fantasy”. Sam believes there are other worlds as well outside Alan Wake. And that they can be discovered in an extensive way going forward.
So far, he hasn’t been able to exactly put all his imagination and passion into any of his projects, in terms of doing things in an extravagant manner. But for his next, he will seemingly like to have all the resources he can utilize to create something even more entertaining than Control, Max Payne, and Alan Wake combined.
