Everyone is eagerly waiting for this Sunday when The Last of Us Episode 8 will drop on HBO Max. It feels like yesterday when this video game adaptation started airing on HBO Max, and the show is already an episode away from the finale. This HBO series took everyone on an emotional ride with the last few episodes. Fans should expect something similar in the upcoming episode too.
The teaser for the upcoming episode revealed Ellie would be looking after Joel, who is injured. But other than that, this episode is going to be one of the most important ones, as it will impact Ellie’s character drastically. In this episode, she will come across David, played by actor Scott Shepherd. Additionally, this episode will also bring a familiar face from the game.

The fans of the original game, who also saw Episode 8’s trailer, know what part of the game this episode will adapt. Ellie will come across a group led by David, but this is no ordinary group of looters. Instead, this is a group that turned to cannibalism for surviving the harsh conditions of the post-apocalyptic setting for this series.

This encounter would toughen up Ellie for the last episode and also for a possible season 2. We already saw Ellie bond with Joel, who is like a father figure to her. Because of this dynamic between the two, Joel has always been the one to protect her from tough situations. But this time, that father figure wouldn’t be around to deal with the cannibals for the most part of this encounter.

From the seven episodes released so far, we also know that this series also shed light on other characters and their stories. So, there is a possibility we would get to know more about David and his cannibal group’s story. This will show Ellie the extents to which people can go to survive, which will make her the person in The Last of Us Part II.
Aside from David’s debut, this episode will bring the original Joel, Troy Baker. He is the voice actor of Joel Miller in the games. However, he wouldn’t be returning to take on the Joel mantle, as that belongs to Pedro Pascal in this adaptation. Instead, he would appear as a new series-original character, James, who is second-in-command of David’s group.
