After the historical episode 5 of the Last of Us, the actor who plays one of the vital characters in the show has come forward to explain how he feels about his role in the story. The latest episode is the highest-rated episode of the series so far and it is expected that the series will have a hard time topping that.

Based on Naughty Dog’s Magnum opus, HBO Max’s adaptation is setting some new standards in gaming adaptations. Previously the League of Legends adaptation- Arcane, and Cyberpunk 2077 adaptation of Edgerunners have been definite examples of good game adaptations but the Last of Us series is giving some strong challenges to their throne.

Episode 5 of the show starred some of the finest talents the industry had to offer. And the legendary actor who played Call of Duty WWII’s Lt. Turner, Jeffrey Pierce, played the right-hand man of Kathleen.

While each of the characters faced some hard outcomes by the end of the episode, one of the worst fates among them was allotted to Jeffrey’s character. In the initial parts of the story, his character appeared as a roughed-up veteran who seemed to go any distance to save his community.

But eventually, he failed to show Kathleen the wrong in her decisions. Instead of protesting to convince her that instead of using all her resources to find just one man, they should have focused on the much more apparent problem, the infected lurking underneath their feet. And ultimately this becomes his hamartia.

In the last scene when the hunters were about to shoot down Henry, the fragile earth exploded and hordes of monstrosities ran at them, and among them was a Bloater. In his final moments he tried to save Kathleen from the Bloater, but it in exchange met his end at the hand of the monster. Getting torn apart in two pieces, just like he was torn between saving his community and following his leader.

There was a catchline in the episode that basically summed up the whole series, “Endure and Survive”. On Twitter, Jeffrey said that he “Failed on both counts.” making it clear that his character wasn’t able to endure the mistakes of his leader and guide her to make the right decision, and because of that failed to survive.
