In a recent interview, the co-president of the studio, Neil Druckmann, revealed that he and his team are looking forward to making more great video games with amazing stories to entice the players. To improve their craft, Neil has admitted that he isn’t going to shy away from taking inspiration from other great storytelling masterpieces such as Elden Ring.
In an interview with the Washington Post, Neil Druckmann said, “Games that trust their audience to figure it out, that don’t hold your hand. That’s the stuff I’m intrigued by going forward,” while praising the masterclass of Miyazaki’s environmental storytelling in his magnum upon Eldin Ring.
How did the fans react?
The fans were very excited about this new direction in which the studio is headed. But many were concerned thinking, what if Naughty Dog goes a little too overboard with the ‘inspiration’ and loses their signature touch from their games? Dismissing these claims one fan said on Twitter, “I don’t see why people seem to think that Neil is indicating that Naughty Dog will just copy FromSoftware’s form of environmental storytelling. That would be a total regression from the gold standard Naughty Dog has established. Implementation of it would simply hone their craft.”
They probably can do it better than fromsoftware.
