The Last of Us co-director and series co-creator Neil Druckmann has his eyes set on the future. He is currently working simultaneously on Naughty Dog’s newly started project as well as the second season of the HBO series based on The Last of Us. The HBO adaptation has earned the series a newfound appreciation from people who might not have known of the game’s existence and storytelling finesse before the release of the show. Moreover, the production of the show has helped teach Druckmann a lot as a writer too, as he recently claimed.
Neil Druckmann would take a cue from the series if he worked on The Last of Us 3
Recently, Neil Druckmann announced that he and his team at Naughty Dog have started working on their next project. Moreover, there’s a heavy implication that the team is working on a different title. It would be safe to assume that it is not the next installment in The Last of Us series.

The game would either be a new title altogether or an Uncharted spin-off. Whatever it might be, one thing is for sure: Naughty Dog would yet again aim for a humane story.

Neil Druckmann also said that if he ever worked on a new The Last of Us title, he would follow the series. He specifically mentioned, “If we ever revisit them in game form, which remains to be seen, there are definitely elements that I’m going to take from the series that would apply to the games.“
Although the production took a lot of liberty when it came to telling the game’s story in a series format, it helped create a whole new universe, further expanding the game’s universe in new and exciting ways. Especially the origin of this infection and the stories of two of the most interesting characters in the game

Evidently, it would not be particularly bad for the studios to develop the storyline in a similar way to that of the show. Using modern storytelling formats, the game could become much more expansive. Something particularly suited for a humane story. However, there are chances that the creators may never get to lay their hands on the third installment. Nevertheless, they can continue to present their rendition of the story with the new season of the HBO series.
