Naughty Dog may be known for the Uncharted series but The Last of Us 2 has broken all previous records. Over 4 million copies were sold in the first 3 days of its release. This also made it the fastest-selling PS4 game. However, now it has been revealed that the developers wanted to go with a completely different ending to the game.
The Last of Us 2 takes place in Seattle and is one of the most intense games available today. The graphics are surreal. Each scene is made out of such painstaking effort that it is clearly visible on the screen.
However, there has been a spike in controversy, which targets the game for being too violent and too graphic. Apart from all that, it is a crowning glory for PS4.

A brilliant, alluring story with conflicted reviews
While some are calling it the best game of this generation, others call it bleak and full of plot holes. The game has been called straight-up “garbage” by many because it relies heavily on violence to move forward. Over the course of the game, Ellie gets more enraged. Her only motive is vengeance, supplemented with blinding violence.
There are new weapons, characters are new, the story is different, but the plot of looting and escaping through a narrow slit remains the same. The free roam mount on a horse, which is considered to be a brilliant idea, soon ends when the horse is killed by a landmine.
While you simply must applaud the interactive gameplay, intense atmosphere, and the beautiful graphics, the emotional labor involved gives your head quite a bang.
Alternative ending to The Last of Us 2?
In an interview with Game Informer, creative director Neil Druckmann and narrative lead Halley Gross discussed a possible different ending to the game where Ellie would kill Abby.
The sequel to the game takes place in a rather safe community with characters traveling in search of resources. In one of these trips, Joel is killed. This sets Ellie on a path of vengeance.
The game focuses on human relationships over a miraculous cure for a virus. It’s like a cycle, Joel took someone from Abby, Abby kills Joel, setting the stage for Ellie’s quest for vengeance.
“We did a lot of iterations on what that last act looked like, but the final beat was that Ellie would kill Abby. About halfway through production, we changed that and had Ellie let go at the last second to [illustrate] that some little part of the old Ellie, the Ellie with humanity, the Ellie that is impacted by Joel, still exists within this character who has been so overtaken by her quest for revenge.”

However, Ellie chooses not to pursue Abby on a death mission, choosing to walk away instead. It is also possible that she sees a reflection of herself in Abby, who is also trying to protect her loved ones.
Both Ellie and Abby are killers, which means one of them killing the other would have been somewhat obvious. However, the game ends on humanitarian ground. It focuses on forgiveness for survival. It’s ironic that the cycle of violence ends with both the characters going their separate ways. Who would have thought?
