In the indie gaming scene, one of the most cherished franchises is Hollow Knight by Team Cherry. The first game was released years ago, and it took over the world, winning the hearts of every player and critic. Fans lost their minds when Team Cherry announced that the world of Hollow Knight would be explored more in their upcoming sequel.

The official announcement was made at E3 2019. After that, not much was revealed about Silksong. Fans were getting desperate for information or some kind of update about the progress of the development process. During the 2022 Xbox June Showcase, Team Cherry revealed they are looking forward to a 2023 release.

This news has given hope to countless fans all over the world. As the community braced itself to finally get its hands on the much-awaited sequel, another misfortune befell. In a Twitter post, one of the officials behind Team Cherry shared that Silksong won’t be released in the first half of 2023.

Hollow Knight Silksong gets delayed 

On May 10th, Matthew Griffin from Team Cherry said on Twitter, “We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We’re excited by how the game is shaping up, and it’s gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can. Expect more details from us once we get closer to release.”

This sequel will feature a different protagonist than the first game. In Hollow Knight, there was a heroine named Hornet who helped the protagonist character in different situations in the narrative. Silksong will be based around Hornet. It will feature a brand new setting and a fresh set of characters, expanding the Hollow Knight lore.

Although the fans are upset that they have to wait longer to get the sequel, they are also glad that Team Cherry is taking their time to make the game as polished as possible. Also, this delay will save them from the potential market clash that could have occurred between Silksong and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
