Each gaming console brings its own exquisite titles to appeal the fans and thwart its competition. Among them, Nintendo has been bringing different genres of content to offer its players a heterogeneous platter. Among them was the Animal Crossing franchise. But from the fan perspective of the popular brand, Nintendo is moving past it and is now focusing primarily on the Legend of Zelda titles.
A Reddit thread has been going viral where Animal Crossing fans are voicing their concerns regarding their favorite title. According to many of them, there is an ‘update drought’ in the game at the moment. Especially as Nintendo is primarily giving focus on its recently released Zelda title.
On the other hand, many from the community are giving out clear-cut reasons as to why there is no update coming Animal Crossing’s way. According to them, the game sort of is ‘officially dead’. These users are taking into account certain statements issued by Nintendo when the last DLC for Animal Crossing was released. According to these netizens, the devs were clear on the fact that the last free DLC was the final update to the franchise.
Some others were pointing out that Nintendo only has a restricted number of people working for Animal Crossing, and moreover, this team was also responsible for Splatoon.
This gave rise to the demand for paid DLC. That is, people feel that free DLCs, even though they provide positive remarks to the game, would likely be not profitable for the studio. Thus, rolling out paid DLC packs might solve the problem. But that too is quite complicated.

Some fans feel that Nintendo already made their profit from the Animal Crossing copy sales. Thus, a paid DLC update may not work in terms of revenue generation. Moreover, the market might have diminished to roll out yet another Animal Crossing update when newer titles are lined up for release.
It seems that many from the community are slowly accepting the notion of Animal Crossing coming to an end. While others still see a line of hope.
