Sledgehammer Games’ creative Director David Swenson, accompanied by Narrative Designer Shelby Carleton, appeared on the stage during the COD panel. Talking to host Geoff Keighley, they unleashed tons of information on the upcoming entry. Especially, in terms of what players can expect from the single-player Campaign and its open-combat design.
“Modern Warfare III this year is the complete package”, said Mr. Swenson. Furthermore, he told that the game will have 16 revamped maps, from 2009’s original MW2. What’s important to note is that “these maps have been modernized with new gameplay and features”, according to the director.
While teasing Zombies, he said that in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, fans will witness “the largest Zombies offering ever” in the franchise. And yes, he did mention the huge innovation in open-combat design for Campaign missions.
When it comes to the storyline, Narrative Designer Shelby Carleton revealed some key details. She said that alongside Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer is going to answer a lot of questions that Modern Warfare II asked last year. Talking specifically about the returning villain Makarov, she said that “he’s cold, he’s calculated and he’s trying to bring the world to the brink of war.” However, Task Force 141 will make sure to stop him from accomplishing his evil objectives.
Followed by the brief conversation with the host, Sledgehammer’s team unleashed the much-awaited gameplay footage. The clip showed the very first mission from the Campaign titled ‘Operation 627’. It featured the elite fireteam carrying out a raid in the Zordaya Prison Complex, using amphibious tactics in the night to extract someone. However, the Campaign footage didn’t reveal the person as the video ended on a cliffhanger note.
COD NEXT to feature an in-depth overview of Modern Warfare III in October
Yes, the event from last year is returning once again. Geoff Keighly confirmed the news after the world premiere of Modern Warfare III’s footage during Gamescom. Afterwards, the devs also published a blog, containing all the necessary details. It mentioned that COD NEXT will take place on October 5, 2023. The premiere showcase will also provide an exclusive look at 2023’s Warzone battle royale.
Modern Warfare III beta dates officially announced
The rumors were true as the dates of MWIII’s open beta match the schedule, already revealed by insiders months ago. The beta phase will begin on October 6, just a day after COD NEXT. To begin with, only PlayStation users will have the access to the game’s limited build. It will feature the Multiplayer experience for the fans to get a taste of what they can expect. They will get to select “Core maps from the modernized 16 originals in Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 2 (2009), as well as new experiences in Ground War”.
