Sony and Polyphony Digital celebrate 25 years of the Gran Turismo series
This series started on Playstation 1 in 1997 with Gran Turismo. The game managed to sell 100,000 units in the first two months, which was a huge feat for a new game back then. It was followed by numerous sequels, each better than the last. And each is more successful than the last.
The games got more and more realistic by the day, to the point that nowadays some career drivers even consider this game to test their driving skills.
And now finally the series has reached its biggest milestone yet, it is officially 25 years old. Sony took it to their Twitter account to announce this.
The post was followed by a message from Polyphony digital’s President Kazunori Yamauchi.
In this blog post, Yamauchi specifically said “I don’t think there are many video game franchises in the world that have continued for 25 years with the same title”, “ and I am thankful and proud that all 200 of our staff are a team that has the same motivation and love that the company started with in the beginning.”
The Fans are very excited about their favorite game’s latest achievement
After Sony made this announcement on their official page, numerous fans of the series were excited to show their support. A number of them got nostalgic about it. While some just talked about how this series kickstarted their interest in sports cars.
