Xbox Game Pass has seemed to create a league of its own. Currently, no gaming subscription offers such a massive library of cross-era games on almost every platform (except PlayStation).

With the Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft and Xbox are truly ahead of time. The subscription has struck a chord with players and wiped off all competition, even if there was any, in the first place. The number of Xbox Game Pass subscribers has increased steadily and if 2K Games chief Strauss Zelnick is to be believed, the game subscription has scaled new heights.

Xbox Game Pass might have around 30 million users

A recent Yahoo Finance “fireside chat” including Xbox boss Phil Spencer and 2K Games chief Strauss Zelnick saw the two influential personalities address multiple topics. But one that caught the most attention was Zelnick’s remark regarding the number of Xbox Game Pass subscribers.

The 2K Games head said, “Phil didn’t pitch his own service, which is impressive, given he could have… but you’ve got around 30 million [Xbox Game Pass] subs Phil, right? Something like that?”

Phil Spencer was quick to correct Zelnik and replied, “The last public number we announced was 18 [million].”

When further asked whether Xbox Game Pass had 30 million subscribers, Strauss simply dodged the question by saying it’s more than 18 million and that’s a pretty big thing. This has left many wondering whether it was actually a mistake on his part or a slip-up.

Another thing worth pondering is Phil’s reaction to all of this. The Xbox boss didn’t deny the number stated by Zelnik, rather wittily dodged it. This might imply that there’s more than what meets the eye. Zelnik, being a high-level partner of Xbox, will definitely be aware of the subscriber count. As of January 2021, the game subscription had 18 million users and as Xbox gears up for exclusives like Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon, it is not surprising to see such growth.

What do you think their real subscriber count is? Let us know in the comments.
