Apex Legends is a free-to-play battle royale-hero shooter game developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. The game is a worldwide phenomenon in the multiplayer FPS scene. Garnering millions of active players every month, the devs had to implement a mechanic to ensure the games are fair.
The team behind Apex Legends had developed an SBMM system that helped match up players at the same skill level. The mechanism used an advanced algorithm to track the players’ past performances and matched them with an appropriate team. But unfortunately, even with all its innovation, the system had some glaring shortcomings.
Devs confirm that Apex Legends SBMM will change into something ‘Surprising’

But with a recent announcement, one of the Dev team member has teased that by the end of the year this issue will be sorted. On November 22, 2022, FaZe Snip3down, complained about the rigged SBMM of Apex. He wrote, “For the first time in a while Apex put me in such a bad mood today. Constant cheaters who I’ve been matching for days, pubs with 3 teams five minutes in, ranked games either 6 teams zone one or third partied instantly, or pubs with my wife against pred players. Good stuff.”
In response to the pro’s complaint, one of the members of the Apex dev team, Samy Duc teased that the problem was not going to be there for long. He wrote, “SBMM will change, for the moment it is based on the highest player in the group and it will most likely mutate to something else (surprise surprise) mid december / new year. We will communicate more in the new year about this, but I hope it will allow to work for you and wife.”
