The latest Nintendo Direct left Zelda fans sorely disappointed. The Japanese video game company maintained radio silence about Link’s next big adventure. However, today’s big news would delight those fans as Nintendo has announced a classic Zelda title that would soon hit the Nintendo Switch.

Franchise veterans would remember that the game’s roots go all the way back to the Nintendo 64, and fans can now revisit the seminal Zelda entry from that 64-bit era. Nintendo has unveiled The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask for the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members, much to the community’s surprise.

Nintendo is bringing Majora’s Mask to Switch Online

This is not the Zelda announcement Nintendo fans were hoping for. Breath of the Wild 2 still remains an enigma, but at least fans can rekindle their love for the classic title as they wait for Link’s next-gen journey.

It was only a matter of time before Majora’s mask received the same treatment Ocarina of Time did. And Nintendo has finally confirmed when the game would be accessible to the fans. Majora’s Mask is coming to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service on February 25.

Once the adventure title hits the subscription service, players can access it through the Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Switch Online app. The app is exclusive to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members and offers a slew of benefits like a library of classic Sega Genesis games alongside the upcoming Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC.

An individual membership would cost fans $50 for a year. However, this provides access to classic Nintendo titles like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Star Fox 64, and even Dr. Mario 64.

Significantly, this might be the only way some fans can experience Link’s 72-hour race against the clock. The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask saw a release on the 3DS back in 2015; however, Nintendo has declared they would be shutting down the 3DS and Wii U storefront. Making the Switch online iteration the only mainstream choice new fans might have of enjoying the title.

Fans seem to be divided on the announcement.
