Super Mario Bros. Wonder will soon release for the Nintendo Switch. The fact that fans are getting a 2D Super Mario Bros. game so late in this console’s life cycle is a big deal. But there’s a lot more to love about this unique game. New items such as Elephant flower, Wonder flower, new game modes, co-op play, and more are just a few of the reasons.
And Nintendo has even made sure that all players, old and new, will be able to enjoy Super Mario Bros. They made sure of this by balancing out the game’s difficulty just right. However, there will be some aspect to the game that players will find challenging.

Platformers are meant to be challenging. They require fast decision-making and fast reflexes from gamers. While a usual player would just play a game at their own pace, a seasoned platformer player would try to go through a level at whirlwind’s speed. And they even expect the game they are playing to challenge them while doing that. That’s what fans are expecting from Super Mario Bros. Wonder. And it appears Nintendo has decided to deliver exactly that, but with a twist.
As many who got to try Super Mario Bros. Wonder are calling it as approachable as its previous installments, the developers have dropped some hints about what awaits next. The game’s director, Shiro Mouri, explained that there’s much wilder stuff awaiting players in later parts of the game, hinting at a more challenging turn.
He specifically told Game Informer, “What you’ve played is just a really, very thin slice of what’s in store, and there are a lot of wilder, more inventive experiences in the full version.” He continued,“More than that would be a spoiler, so I just want to encourage you to give it a try and really experience it for yourself.”
Mouri also spoke about badges. When asked about completionists wanting to collect all badges, he said,
“It really is going to be quite challenging to be able to collect all of the Badges, so if you feel confident in your Mario-playing skills, I implore you to give it a shot.”
This means that the game might be hiding more than Nintendo has cared to show its fans till now.

Nintendo has always been good at striking a balance
Nintendo, as a developer and a publisher, has never shied away from giving fans an easy way into their titles. Their games are always pretty approachable and even inviting visually. Hence, it would not be a surprise if they ended up doing with Super Mario Bros. 1 wonders what they did with Super Mario 3D Land.
In that game, they introduced much more challenging levels when players completed the initial title. Those levels were called Special Worlds. This basically gave players seeking challenges a whole new game to enjoy. Even the original Super Mario Bros. had a bunch of additional harder levels that players could try to complete if they wanted a challenge.
