Super Mario Bros. Wonder Game Director Suggests Two Characters for Newcomers to the Franchise

Nintendo is on the verge of bringing a 2D side-scrolling Super Mario game after a long, long time. Super Mario Bros. Wonder is set to release on October 20, 2023, on the Nintendo Switch. However, you can still pre-order the title. This game is not only coming with the classic Mario vibe but also with some new aspects as well.

Among these, one aspect will be a treat for all the newcomers to the Super Mario Universe. There will be a lot of characters in this side-scrolling game you can enjoy your ride with, but with two particular characters, you can enjoy the best if you are a rookie player.

Nabbit and Yoshi—two head starters for newbies in Super Mario Bros. Wonder

Characters in Super Mario Bros. Wonder are a great way to settle the difficulty levels. Among the playable characters like Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, and the Toads, there are two characters that new players will absolutely love to play. Nabbit and Yoshi are for players who are not very accustomed to the Super Mario settings.

These two characters don’t take damage from their enemies. However, there are some negative sides to the characters as well. Nabbit and Yoshi won’t be able to use any power-ups like the other characters in the game. That’s why fans won’t be able to enjoy some of the most unique elements of the game.

The producer of the game, Takashi Tezuka, has stated: “Both of these characters, I think they’re really good choices for people who are maybe not very good at action games, but for other folks who maybe do play [action games], their pride might not allow them to select Yoshi or Nabbit.”

He has also stated that sometimes players should look above their level of experience to select these two characters, as they have put a lot of effort into surfacing them, and that it would be great to try both characters to get the whole fun of the game.

Other aspects for newcomers

On the other hand, game director Shiro Mouri has shed light on other elements of the game that are going to be game-changers for the new Super Mario players. Mouri has recommended that they try out the game’s many multiplayer features. Like the Standee function, which acts as an in-stage checkpoint for players. In Mouri’s words, “Even though there may be some very challenging courses, there are several ways of playing the game that will help aid you in clearing those courses.”

Boss battles are sometimes a crucial point for new players, as these missions demand the optimum test of skills. But according to the director, if they use the powers of Wonder, the experience will be bread and butter.
