Takashi Tezuka, the executive officer at Nintendo in a recent interview highlighted the massive changes the company adopted in its approach for the development of their 2D project. According to the official, the company surrendered control over the title giving full authority and liberty to the developers working on the project. Moreover, the major decisions taken in the context of the gameplay depended on the team that was involved in creating the title.

We really wanted to give the designers more freedom than we would have in the past. And more so than having a lot of people who’ve been making Mario games and working on Mario games for a long time, we had a lot of people who are new to the franchise. I said to them, ‘I’m really grateful that you being protective of Mario, but I really want you to think about what Mario needs to be now”, Tezuka stated during the interview.

The Nintendo producer also emphasized the fact that the company wanted to create the game from the perspective of Mario lovers. “What do you think Mario needs to be in order to play it the way you want to play Mario”, he added to his statements. These questions clearly imply the focus remained firmly on creating a title that catered to the mushroom fandom.

All that’s new with the upcoming 2D adventure
