#1 The locations are real!
All the locations that were shown in the trailer were in fact based on real-life locations in Brooklyn, New York. Even the map that was shown for a second in the trailer, gives a tease about this detail.
If you focus more minutely, you can find many names on the map that give references to other games and products under Nintendo’s banner. Like the Hanfuda cards, Punch Out game, and a Mushroom Planet reference as well. There was also a street named 1889th Street, giving homage to the year Nintendo was created.
#2 The theme song
The theme song or the rap segment presented throughout the video is actually from the classic animated Super Mario television show. It was the opening song of each of the episodes. This television show holds a lot of significance, as it was one of the main motivations for the characteristics of Mario and Luigi.
#3 The Logo on the Van
The logo on the van is another homage to the games. The Brand name of Mario’s in-universe plumbing used the iconic fonts that have been used in most of the game’s promotional material and box art. Even the image of Mario beside the logo is also from the classic box arts.
#4 Luigi’s scared face
Luigi’s scared face in the trailer is straight up from the cover of his beloved gaming franchise, Luigi’s Mansion. While Mario is seen as the main protagonist of the mainline SMB games, Luigi’s Mansion gave the spotlight to the second lead and gave him a mission to save the day.
