Hotel Barcelona is a very unusual title. At first glance, it’s a side scroller with gore-heavy themes. Keeping up with the usual Suda51 themes, this one collects the biggest of the USA’s serial killers in a hotel and tasks players with defeating them. However, it’s not as straightforward as it sounds.

It’s a world where someone has found a way to prevent them from dying. That’s why the player character keeps respawning after dying, and within the bounds of this loop, they have to make sure each one of their opponents is dead.

The biggest new addition to the mechanics of side-scrawling games that is introduced in Hotek Barcelona is called Slasher Phantom. When players die, they can choose to have their previous selves follow them through the levels. This provides decent enough support in the treacherous world of Hotel Barcelona, albeit a very limited one; players cannot expect their shadows to win boss battles for them.

Swery65 himself said in an interview with Xbox news “You might then think, If I have three Slasher Phantoms with me all the time, all the levels will be a piece of cake. I assure you, it is not that easy.”

This all sounds pretty interesting; it looks like they have intentions to give their fans something exceptionally unique, as is their legacy.

Their previous games really make fans hopeful.
