Street Fighter 6 is already one of the best-reviewed titles of 2023. It has amassed a huge appreciation from media critics and fans have embraced it with open arms as well. The latest fighting game from Capcom has also ended up performing beyond expectations on Steam. In fact, it has already reached the point of surpassing the months-old Call of Duty blockbuster on the digital storefront.
Activision’s ongoing CoD entry has been out since October last year. While it was doing pretty well initially, the situation hasn’t been that great for Modern Warfare II. And now, it’s having a tough time sustaining the player count on a platform like Steam. On the other hand, SF6 is smashing records left and right in the store within days of its debut.

Street Fighter 6 is developed and published by Capcom. Directed by Takayuki Nakayama, it’s the seventh main entry in the celebrated fighting franchise. Coming after the disappointing response to its predecessor, this new installment has exceeded everyone’s expectations. On Metacritic, the game has managed to get a phenomenal score of 92. In terms of the most well-received releases from Capcom this year, it sits behind only Resident Evil 4 Remake.
And now, Street Fighter 6 has become the most played, non-F2P title on Steam in terms of having the highest concurrent player count. Since its launch on June 2nd, this game has amassed an all-time peak figure of over 70,000 active players. When it comes to the average count, Capcom’s title is fast approaching the milestone of almost 60,000 concurrent players. Currently, the figure stands at over 55,000 average concurrent players.

These figures are impressive when considering another major AAA title, consisting of a live-service model and F2P element. This game is Activision’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare II (including Warzone 2 battle royale), which is struggling since the last month to maintain a good concurrent player count.
As of this writing, the FPS title has just over 63,000 average players on Steam – coming down from over 100,000 a few months ago. In comparison, a new game in Street Fighter 6 has already managed to reach close to its average figure.
