March 2023 turned out to be a sad month for the VTube community, as one of the most prominent VTubers Pikamee announced her retirement. She has been away from streaming since she canceled her Hogwarts Legacy streams in early February. While her fans were eagerly waiting for her return, she dropped this shocking news.
Amano Pikamee, better known as Pikamee, started streaming in 2020 on YouTube. It didn’t take much time for her to get noticed on the platform. In 2021, she transitioned to Twitch, which turned out to be a successful venture. She became one of the fan-favorite VTubers thanks to her energetic and light-hearted personality. So her calling quits as a VTuber was a huge blow to her fans.

On March 1, Pikamee’s agency VOMS Project announced her retirement. For those who don’t know, many VTubers are managed by agencies similar to how many actors and K-pop stars are. Her agency claimed after discussing with the VTuber, she will “graduate” from their group. However, the announcement also stated that she will be able to stream till March 31, 2023.

VMOS Project further announced after both parties parted ways, Pikamee’s content on her channel and on the group’s channel will be private. Also, all memberships on her channel will be closed and, along with, ending the sales of her merchandise. However, they mentioned that she would attend VMOS’s third-anniversary pop-up store at Marui.
The VTuber or her agency didn’t clarify the reason. But fans speculate it has to do with her Hogwarts Legacy stream. Pikamee expressed a desire to play Hogwarts Legacy in February, but it received a lot of negativity because of the game’s connection to “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling, who has been criticized for her controversial opinions.

So a bunch of people got butt hurt over a video game for no reason, choose to bully anyone who didn’t have the same opinion as them, and now we have to lose Pikamee as a result?

This hurts my soul in more ways than one.
Pikamee was the first VTuber I ever enjoyed, so seeing her leave, especially so suddenly, is devastating.
I just REALLY hope this wasn't directly caused by the bullying she received over Hogwarts Legacy.
