Stray, the popular cat game, is no longer popular. And it appears that the reason for this is its nomination for the 2022 Game of the Year Award. But the fact is that gamers dislike most independent games, not just stray. Although it is unclear why, one thing is certain: whether you love them or despise them, they are some of the most outstanding games ever created by the industry.

Stray is an unlikely name to appear on the list of the finest video games produced this year, especially when contenders for Game of the Year include God of War Ragnarok and Elden Ring. Because of this, a large number of fans believe that the game shouldn’t be on the list and that some other games could have been a better selections. Therefore, here are a few fan reactions that show what the community is thinking.
Stray is not good enough? Why do fans think so?
The Nominees for the Game of The Year, 2022 Awards are Elden Ring, God of War Ragnarok, A Plague Tale Requiem, Horizon Forbidden West, Stray, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3. While fans agree with this list, many are saying that Annapurna Interactive’s debut game Stray is a rather unusual choice.
While some fans were shocked by the inclusion of Stray on the list, others said that the game is good but not that good to be nominated as the Game of the Year. There were also some who were commenting that Cult of the Lambs was better than Stray.
Stray??? This is the most ridiculous thing I've seen today… there were better Indies like Immortality, Cult of the Lamb, Tunic, or even the Kirby was better than that game…

Man Stray is good, but I would prefer a bunch of other games lol

I mean Stray was good but not that good😭

Stray being nominated is hilarious

Although the reason behind this is not clear, speculation can be, Stray is being compared with other nominees like God of War Ragnarok and Elden Ring, rather than being treated as a separate game in itself. And if the speculation is true, then it is a rather pointless debate, as every indie game tries to bring something new to the plate rather than go into the same tried and proven method.

Solid list. Stray is surprising, but a good fit. Horizon looks like the odd man out. I'd rather see Vampire Survivors there because it's such a unique game.

Indies shouldn’t be nominated for GOTY in general.

stray literally got there cause of the memes that's insane. It's a cute, fine lil game but being in the goty nom is ridiculous. It'd be easy to name a multitude of ganes nore deserving for a placement than Stray.

Notably, Stray is nominated for 6 major categories such as Game of the Year 2022, Best Game Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Independent Games, Best Debut Indie Games, and Best Action-Adventure Games. And if predicted correctly, Stray is a very strong contender for the Best Debut Indie game.
