The Xbox showcase showered the fans with a huge assortment of new titles coming. However, the star of the show was Starfield. This Bethesda title entranced the fans the moment it was presented. With its stunning graphics and fluid action scenes, this game takes an adventure spin on sci-fi games. However, after the complete presentation, fans had one complaint – that the game looks like Bethesda’s other hit series ‘Fallout’ set in space.

Bethesda promotes it as a completely new IP after decades, with the official site stating, “Starfield is the first new universe in over 25 years from Bethesda Game Studios, the award-winning creators of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4”. However, this new title after 25 years still draws heavy influence from Fallout 4. Furthermore, a side-by-side comparison of these two games created by Bethesda draws up a lot of similarities between the two.

1. Ship and Base building mechanics in Starfield

The Fallout series from Bethesda is known for its base-building mechanics. This mechanic in itself spawned various other titles like it, with them trying to adapt the way Fallout makes bases. Fallout 4 players who have toyed around a lot of base-building will find themselves right at home in Starfield. Furthermore, like Fallout 4, Starfield has also got elements of base-building with an added touch of ship-building.

Players should enter build mode in the upcoming Bethesda title and toy around with Cargo, Crew, Power, and Production. All these base-building attributes will let players craft the base of their choice in Starfield.

2. Companion mechanics

Every Fallout 4 fan would be familiar with the friendly robot companion Codsworth. He has become an integral part of Fallout history. A unique aspect of this robot is he had a list of names present in his database. Players could select what name they wanted and the robot along with other NPCs will repeat it.

Now this same concept is being used again in Starfield. This game too has a robot companion which has a Codsworth-style name list for players. This companion also tags along with the players during battle scenes. Fans could only hope the robot companion in Starfield is not as weak as the ones from Fallout 4.

3. Gun Modding Mechanics

Gun modding has become a common practice in the gaming industry. FPS games like Call of Duty have taken it to another level. However, Fallout 4 also tried its hand at gun modding. It is the only game from the Fallout series that allows players to add parts to the gun.

Starfield too will carry on this concept from Fallout 4 and let players customize their guns to deliver a heavy blow on the enemies. Furthermore, Bethesda has also revealed an arsenal of sci-fi guns that can be selected by the players.

4. Fallout 4’s Minutemen vs Constellation in Starfield

The Commonwealth Minutemen are one of the first factions players encounter in Fallout 4. They are a volunteer civilian defense militia, and players get to be part of this faction from the very start of the game. Soon after escaping the vault, players get an early encounter with this faction. Preston Garvey, the leader of this faction, offers players to join it, and the main quest starts from here.

Working on a similar path for the player, Starfield has some similarities with the opening storyline with the factions. Constellation is an organization in the upcoming Bethesda IP that is dedicated to unlocking the secrets of the galaxy. And like Fallout 4, players get a chance to join this faction early on to kick-start the main storyline. Furthermore, fans are calling the leader of Constellation a rip-off from Preston Garvey.

5. Looting mechanics

This is a pretty straightforward concept in any RPG game. Like many coming before it, Fallout 4 and Starfield allow players to loot stuff from their environment and enemies. In Fallout 4 players can loot combat armor, energy weapons, ammo, and much more. Similarly in the upcoming sci-fi RPG game, players can loot abandoned ships, bases, and enemies to make the most out of their adventure.

6. Story progress concerning what faction the player sides with

While Constellation and Minutemen are the first factions player encounter in Starfield and Fallout 4 respectively, they are definitely not the last. Players in both games can opt to switch their factions. However, this switching of factions will change the course of the game’s ending for the players. So players should think wisely about which factions they are going to opt for in Starfield and Fallout 4.

7. Perk system

While the perk system in both these titles is somewhat similar, Bethesda added some unique touches in Starfield. They took the perk system in Fallout 4 and polished it to deliver the skill system in Starfield. While the skill system in Starfield is superior, it is definitely built upon the perk system of the Fallout series.

8. Sidequests

One thing Bethesda did uniquely in Fallout 4 was sidequests. Players would stumble upon sidequests randomly in this title and then opt to do these. However, this concept has now become a staple for Bethesda as they have implemented this technique in almost all of their titles like Skyrim and Fallout. Starfield is also not excluded from this and sidequest initiation in this game is similar to other Bethesda titles.

9. Fallout 4’s Pip-Boy vs Watch in Starfield

The Pip-biy was definitely one of the most used gadgets in Fallout 4. It served as a database for the wearer’s personal information and inventory. Bethesda redid this concept in Starfield with a watch. By just looking at the watch, players would notice all the necessary information related to them. The UI from Pip-boy was not as smooth, so fans would have to see how the UI of Starfield’s watch works out.

10. NPC and enemies

Fallout 4 was filled with NPCs to interact with and enemies to fight. Similarly, the upcoming sci-fi title from Bethesda is also lined up with them. However, in the upcoming title, the developers have refined the interaction with NPCs and added a skill tree for interactions with them.
