Video games are getting bigger by the day. With the increasing development in consoles and their ability to support bigger games, even games are getting bigger. Large open-world titles have become the norm. And many become immensely successful too. Games like GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 are just a few of the many such games. And the latest example of such success is none other than Starfield.

This game is not even half a month old yet, and it has already started topping the sales charts. Starfield’s success is no surprise to many, but what’s surprising is that it is this successful even after being available on Xbox Game Pass.

Starfield topped Europe’s sales charts at launch despite being an Xbox Game Pass title!

Game developers and publishers have talked about how a game being available on Xbox Game Pass severely affects its standalone sales. But Starfield seems to have proven this wrong.

Bethesda’s latest role-playing game is winning hearts everywhere. It was so successful that it set an all-time record for having the most concurrent players on Steam. And now it is revealed that this open-world sci-fi RPG topped the Euro sales chart at its launch. Now, it has reached a fifth place on the list of this year’s biggest launches in Europe. And Starfield has done all this despite being an Xbox Game Pass Day 1 title.

Xbox Game Pass Day 1 titles are those that are made available on the Game Pass service on the very first day of their launch. And no doubt it was a success on that platform; most players actually bought the subscription just so they could get their hands on this game.

A gamesindustry.biz report says that Starfield was initially at number 1. But it was eventually pushed down by the likes of Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo IV, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. It is to be noted that all of these games were multi-platform, with the exception of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Multi-platform games sell more than exclusives; hence, it’s a big deal that Starfield has secured a fifth-place ranking amongst those games.

And it must be reiterated that Starfield did this despite being available on Xbox Game Pass at launch. Let’s see where this success takes Starfield and its developer, Bethesda Games Studios. It would be exciting to see how long this streak continues. Spider-Man 2 is approaching fast and is another one of this year’s biggest games.
