One of the major negative aspects of open-world RPGs is their huge size and scope, which often require hundreds of hours to complete the whole game. But in a recent interview, Gerighty assured the fans that Star Wars Outlaws doesn’t fall into the “300-hour epic unfinishable RPG” category, which some major and popular open-world RPGs do. Instead, he has promised that the company is aiming to deliver “very manageable” gameplay that will give an immersive experience without making the players feel overwhelmed.

He also suggested that the players wouldn’t have to bear the burden of excessive gameplay hours. The game will be evenly balanced between focused and engaging gameplay and limited game time. Outlaws will provide the same experience to both casual and hardcore gamers alike. Gerighty says, “So it is absolutely not a 200- or 300-hour epic unfinishable RPG. This is a very focused action-adventure RPG that will take people on a ride and is very manageable.”

Crafting the Open World of Star Wars Outlaws

Many previous open-world titles have delivered boundless exploration and limitless side quests before. But Gerighty clarified that, unlike procedurally generated planets in other open worlds, Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment developers have given importance to the proper level of detail and depth to ensure a realistic experience.

Gerighty compares the scale of each planet to two “zones” from Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, suggesting that the game focuses on delivering a more compact but densely packed experience. This choice of scales will allow a core amount of playable surface with grass, distractions, characters, and cantinas. Gerighty has also stated that there will be no one-off exotic missions outside the core area, which lays emphasis on his idea of a “focused action-adventure RPG.”
