As the name suggests, the game is the 16th addition to the series developed by Square Enix. It is under the direction of Hiroshi Takai, well known for his work in Final Fantasy XIV, The Last Remnant, and the SaGa series. What’s interesting is that the game was originally also in the works for an Xbox version, which was later retracted. And as of now, Final Fantasy XVI will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
In a recent interview, producer Naoki Yoshida suggested, although the company wants to showcase its work, they might need a little more time before making the content available to the fans. He said, “we really want to show something for Tokyo Game Show 2021, but we probably can’t make that deadline… we definitely want to show it, but isn’t it better if when we do, you’re able to play it right after?”

Yoshida further talks about the company’s plans. Revealing that the company prefers to release another trailer when it’s closer to finishing the game’s development. He adds, “I personally don’t like it when small bits of info is released to string people along. I talked about this with the team and director Takai-san. We want to reveal something where people will say, ‘I want to play it now! Release it now!’ And we can reply, ‘sure, here you go!”
