Talking to The Guardian, Yoshida views the use of AI as a tool to achieve cost-cutting and increase reach to new audiences. While sharing an experience he had at his job, he pointed out the positive usage of AI in gaming. Yoshida regularly reviews the pitches of many external talents to welcome them into the PlayStation world.

Recently, he got 15 indie game projects from Japan to review. And one project among them caught his eye. A bunch of Japanese students built this project, containing some beautiful graphics. “That is powerful, that a small number of young people can create an amazing-looking game,” said Yoshida.

Although, many game developers and graphic designers have opposed the use of AI in gaming. The recent campaign ‘No to AI-Generated Art’ gained a lot of support in the gaming industry. Yoshida, however, had some views contrary to popular belief. “It is a tool. Someone has to use the tool,” he said, supporting the use of AI.

He urged the industry to accept the changes, rather than stick to primitive methods. He believed AI will be able to work on the grunt work, while humans would focus more on creative aspects.
