Sony’s PlayStation 5 is going strong, with its player base and library of exclusives growing by the day. Of course, Sony has noticed this, and they have plans to expand their hardware lineup. Reportedly, this lineup would include a slim version of the PlayStation 5, as well as a Pro version.

There’s one piece of hardware that has been confirmed by Sony itself: a handheld device known as PlayStation Project Q. Sony has just announced this device and left out the details for a later time. But it appears someone decided fans needed a better look at this device and leaked it online!

Sony’s decision to develop a new handheld console did not come as a surprise to anyone. The success of the Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck is not hidden from anyone, and everyone is trying to copy their success. Asus launched ROG Ally, which is also slowly growing into a success.

Hence, it makes complete sense for Sony to come up with something of their own. But what they came up with was a massive surprise. Instead of creating a straightforward handheld, they decided to give the PlayStation 5 a companion device.

A device that streams PlayStation 5 games and nothing else. A weird choice indeed for a company that has mostly focused on improving the consumer experience. This device would reportedly allow players to remotely play PlayStation 5 games.

The specs of this device aren’t half bad, though; it boasts an 8-inch LCD touchscreen. The screen is capable of outputting 1080p visuals at 60 fps. Then there’s the inclusion of the Dualsense controller. The screen has a Dualsense controller attached to it, ala Joy-Cons on the Nintendo Switch. Only the Dualsense is detachable.

The recently leaked footage featured on Insider Gaming also shows how smooth the touchscreen of that display is. But the most noticeable part is the fact that its UI seems like that of Android, complete with touch-based back and home buttons.

If this ends up being the case, then fans would have a right to be miffed, as there are rumors that this device would cost around $300. It would be a shame if fans got an Android tablet attached to the Dualsense for that price.

However fans should only worry about it when Sony confirms it. For now, the main takeaway from that video should be that it looks a lot more high-quality and sturdy than expected.
