Sony just revealed its financial results for the financial year 2022, and going by the numbers it looks like the PlayStation company had a great run. But this time, it gained a huge boost from its movies, especially those starring actor Tom Holland. While one was last year’s Marvel blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home, the second one was Uncharted. The latter had released earlier this year.

Talking about Uncharted, then the big-screen adaptation of the beloved gaming saga surprised everyone upon its launch in 2022. Initially, it didn’t receive favorable reviews, but despite that, moviegoers enjoyed Tom Holland’s performance. Ultimately, the film became a mega hit for Sony. It was evident to witness in the company’s recently revealed Corporate Strategy Meeting as well.
Tom Holland’s magic in Uncharted and Spider-Man: No Way Home brings big huge profit for Sony
Sony had its meeting regarding the year 2022 in which it unveiled the overall progress that it’s making in various categories. When it comes to entertainment section, the PlayStation maker revealed that it saw a massive success coming from two of its biggest films in the last one year.
Mentioning Uncharted movie, the company stated that it has increased the value of their original IP, that is, Naughty Dog’s video gaming franchise.
Uncharted has performed beyond expectations, while breaking the video game movie jinx. It was expected to fall flat due to unfavorable reactions from critics but it didn’t happen. Tom Holland really contributed a lot to the film’s box office domination.

Currently, Uncharted is the 2nd highest grossing video game movie of all time in the US. With a total of $146.6 million, it’s only behind another gaming title in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The latter was also released this year and has currently earned an estimated $170.0 million. The figures are taken from Sony’s official presentation slide for its Corporate Strategy Meeting.

Then there was another movie featuring Tom Holland that blew everyone’s minds with its invincible box office run. Spider-Man: No Way Home succeeded in becoming the 3rd highest-grossing movie of all time in the US. With an estimated total of $804.6 million, it’s only behind Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens ($(936.7 million) and Avengers: Endgame ($858.4 million).
In other news, Sony is currently planning to come up with more live action adaptations of its other IPs. Games like Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, and Gran Turismo will soon receive their TV shows for multiple streaming platforms.
